How it began.

For those curious about where it all began, let me take you back to 1997—when what is now commonplace in the fitness world was downright radical. I began integrating my dance background into my yoga and Pilates classes in the late 90s and early 2000s, long before it was trendy. Back then, believe me, I wasn’t well-liked or understood for it.

But I persisted because I loved it then, and I love it now—especially as I age. Today, dance-based fitness classes have evolved into a powerful methodology, offering not just physical strength but also a deeper connection between the mind and body.

When you blend these two disciplines, something truly magical happens. The strength-building, stabilizing techniques of Pilates meet the rhythmic, expressive freedom of dance, creating a dynamic workout that challenges the body in diverse ways. It’s not just about building physical strength—it’s about fostering creativity, self-expression, and joy.

And let’s not forget the mental health benefits. Studies, like one from the University of Derby, have found that dance-based movement reduces anxiety by as much as 20%, leaving participants feeling empowered and uplifted.

So, as the fitness landscape continues to evolve, the integration of dance and Pilates offers a truly holistic approach to well-being. It’s a method that strengthens the body, nurtures the mind, and connects you to your inner vitality.

For me, this movement has come full circle. What started as a personal passion—misunderstood and unconventional—has now become a recognized and beloved approach to fitness. And for that, I am grateful.
